Saturday at the Davidson Farmers Market WOW had a visit from a naturalist with information about Crepuscular Animals. What is a Crepuscular Animal? Well, you need to learn the meaning of the word crepuscular. Crepuscular means “having to do with twilight.” So a crepuscular animal is one that prefers dawn or dusk for their hunting and other activities. Many familiar animals fall into this category. Some of the mammals that you would know that are crepuscular are opossums, bats, mice, raccoon, mink, striped skunk, coyote, and fox. Some insects are crepuscular like the Lightening Bug or firefly in the picture above. Go outside early in the morning or after sunset and look around to see what animals are active. This is the crepuscular time of day. Enjoy the world of the crepuscular animals.
